Surgery
We perform basic surgeries such as spays and castrations, umbilical hernia repairs and simple skin tumor removals. We can also perform tail and toe amputations (only when medically necessary).
Our clinic has inhalation anesthesia equipment and experienced veterinary nurses monitor anaesthesia to ensure your cat’s procedure runs smoothly and safely.
Safe anesthesia
The majority of surgical procedures are performed under inhalation anesthesia, where the cat breathes a mixture of anesthetic gas and oxygen to maintain sleep. Smaller surgeries such as castrations are performed under intravenous anesthesia, where a sleep-maintaining drug is administered intravenously. All patients receive supplemental oxygen and additional heating from the pre-operative preparation to the recovery room, and experienced nurses closely monitor the patient’s vital signs throughout the procedure.
Anesthesia Safety Package
We know that putting your under anesthesia can be stressful. We also know that cats are masters at hiding symptoms of illness and that, for example, subclinical heart disease is not uncommon in cats.
Our anesthesia safety package includes the most relevant blood tests to detect possible risk factors related to internal organs before putting your cat under anesthesia. The tests include hematocrit (the proportion of red blood cells in the blood), blood plasma protein content, kidney and liver values, and NT-proBNP, which can detect clinically significant heart disease.
The anesthesia safety package is intended especially for adult cats with a family history of anesthesia problems or congenital heart or organ diseases, for high-risk cat breeds (Maine Coon, Persian, Bengal, Ragdoll, Sphynx, Devon Rex, British Shorthair) or for cats whose recovery from previous anesthesia has not gone as expected.
NOTE! For older senior cats of over 7 years of age we do recommend our more broad senior examination package prior anesthesia for more extensive safety.
